But unfortunately, this essential nutrient also contributes as a major cause of high blood pressure. Almost all food products contain sodium, either as a constituent or as salt. Salt contains high quantity of sodium and is an unavoidable ingredient of all recipes, save desserts.

American Heart Association recommends people with high blood pressure must eat less than 1500mg of salt per day, or less than 3/4 of a table spoon of salt.
