T. Seetharam, an international sportsperson based in Bangalore along with Sandesha B.G. a national level athlete has initiatedWheelchair Tennis training at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association. The initiative was started to mobilise and encourage the people with disabilities to play the sport. It has also become the training ground for a number of national level players who are aspiring to make the cut at the international level.
In 2009, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in association with the All India Tennis Association listed three cities – Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai – where locals will be encouraged to take up the sport. Earlier last month, Madhu Bagri from Ahmadabad became the first Indian to represent India in Wheelchair tennis at the Bangkok Open.
