ALDS: The Beginning.

Ethiopian Deaf Project ALDS

As many people associated with the Ethiopian Deaf Project are aware, the ALDS (Ambo Lazarist Deaf School) was officially opened on the 31st December 2013. This was the culmination of four years hard work and effort on the part of a great many people.

Through this blog we would like to tell the story of the development of ALDS and how this project has already begun to transform the lives of the Deaf Community in Ambo. Through a series of workshops and personal interaction with members of the Deaf Community in Ambo we learnt about the social isolation they felt, the abuses they were prone to, their dependency on others and their desire to be educated in a way that gave them the best opportunity to prove their ability to become equal and productive members of society.
